That time

Its that time of year again, and I have been falling slowly apart so it has good timing.

Whether you believe in New Years resolutions or not, its a good time of year to re-evaluate how things went, what you need to change about your life, what you will prioritise next year. I like to goal set all year round (I don't always actually do it, but I like to think about it), but New Years is a new start for me to let go of the things that haven't worked out and look at things from the zoomed out perspective rather than the day to day perspective that I usually use. I am hopeing to further post about what I come up with, but the holiday season is often a busy one for me, so I can't actually promise anything.

Perhaps my resolutions should include finding some way to stay in touch better, and probably also to post more often... I have been slack this year. Once per week isn't a bad goal... I will think about it :)

If I don't post again before hand, I hope everyone has a merry christmas, a happy new year, and a restful break.

Child

I am feeling... strange, disjointed, childish. I want to say so many things, and yet I don't know what I want to say.

When we were children
my sister and I
Our uncle told us that he had a dinosaur
In his bedroom
In his closet
And every morning for breakfast, he fed it
Seventeen Sausages
Eight eggs
Bushels of bacon
But
It was always a little bit hungry

So we went down the hall
Past his door
At a run

I didn't really believe him
Dinosaurs are very big
Much too big to fit in a closet.
It probably lived under the house
And came up through a hole in his closet
Just to get breakfast.

When we were older
My sister and I
Our uncle told us that he was going overseas
On a plane
And that gran would feed the dinosaur, its
Seventeen sausages
Eight eggs
Bushels of bacon
But
He was worried that some days she might forget

And one boring, rain swept day
We went looking for it
The dinosaur
And in that closet there were
clothes
Shoes
Books
and a gun
But not a dinosaur in sight
Then we looked under the house too
No dinosaur

Our uncle lied to us
My sister and I
And to this day we wonder
How he got such a big dinosaur into his suitcase.

I love my dad

So dad sent new xp down with some friends, and I now have my computer back, and reality has backed off to give me some breathing room. Its all good.

Work is good, I am still enjoying it, its an awesome thing when you like your job.

Worrying about some friends that I haven't seen for a while. I know that sometimes life is hard, and I wish that I could be there for you in a take you out for coffee kind of a way; rather than a if you need me then give me a call kind of way... I wish my arms stretched further. Or that I could fly. Its a time of decisions and painful truths, but it is also a time for people to find that inner strength, and to realise that strength comes in many forms - including seeking help, reaching out to someone, and letting go. If you are looking for strength, feel free to look at my place. I will be here, and if necessary so will a nice little bottle of rocket fuel. :)
Some times you have to fall apart to get it together, and that is ok. I am here to catch you.

Romance

Romance - Gabriel Setoun

I saw a ship a-sailing,
A-sailing on the sea;
Her masts were of the shining gold,
Her deck of ivory;
And sails of silk, as soft as milk,
And silvern shrouds had she.

And round about her sailing
The sea was sparkling white,
The waves all clapped their hands and sang
To see so fair a sight;
They kissed her twice, they kissed her thrice,
And murmured with delight.

Then came the gallant captain
And stood upon the deck,
In velvet coat and ruffles white,
Without a spot or speck,
And diamond rings and triple strings
Of pearls about his neck.

And four and twenty sailors
Were round him bowing low,
On every jacket three times three
Gold buttons in a row,
And cutlasses down to their knees;
They made a goodly show.

And then the ship went sailing,
A-sailing o'er the sea;
She dived beneath the setting sun,
But never back came she,
For she found the lands of the golden sands,
Where the pearls and diamonds be.

Superman

I collect Superman songs. Its kind of a weird one, I liked several songs that referred to Superman, so I went out looking to see what else was out there. And I like what I have found.

He is this intelligent, noble, genuine guy, who is in love with a girl who doesn't really acknowledge him. But he just happens to also be an alien from a dying world, set adrift by his folks all alone. So while he is the image of human goodness, he is also not human, and it is human cruelty which makes his existence difficult. And he hides his true identity, only jumping out in his cape to avert crimes, where ironically the girl of his dreams falls in love with this version of him. And then there is the Kryptonite, his second great weakness after the girl. Both of which get exploited all the time.

Superman means so much to people, he is a complex metaphor that most of the western world relates to. He stands for towering strength, inexplicable weakness, nobleness and corruption. He is every man who is desired by women, and every man who loves unrequited, and every man who gains his hearts desire. He is about finding yourself, knowing and not knowing and hiding who you are. He is about safety and security, and also about great danger. He is our greatest desire, to have someone there to save us in our hour of need; coupled with our greatest fear, complete abandonment. And he has superpowers, mankind's most common fantasy.

The superman of old has had his image extended by the cinema. Christopher Reeve's identity has become highly intertwined with the avatar, so his tragic accident and later his passing have left their scars on superman. But no matter how time passes, I don't think superman will loose his fascination. He means to much, and he epitomizes such basic human nature that he can not become outdated. His graphics will change over time, but his image will live on.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband : Even Superman
When you saw her face
You thought that nothing could go wrong
And then you saw her smile
You used to be so very strong
But even x-ray eyes
Could not realize
Everybody loves and everybody falls and everybody, everybody feels this way
(Chorus)
Cause even Superman has kryptonite
Though he tries with all his might
Even Superman falls to his knees
Beggin' "please, please, please, please"
Beggin' "please, please, please, please"
Now Lois Lane feels safe
Because he's flyin up above
But would he save the world (would he save the world)
And never hold his one true love
Then she had a dream
And woke up with a scream
Sayin "everybody hurts and everybody falls and everybody, everybody feels this way
Chorus
When Lex Luthor saw
How this weakness made him strong
The diabolic plan (the diabolic plan)
Was in effect before too long
Cause even giants fall
And every dog eventually has its day
And Achilles has a heel
And even bones still can break
Cause even Superman has kryptonite
Though he tries with all his might
Even Superman falls to his knees
Beggin' "please, please, please, please"
